Trapinch is a Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III, first appearing in the Hoenn region. Known as the Ant Pit Pokémon, it is characterized by its disproportionately large head, which is almost entirely made up of its powerful jaws. Trapinch constructs conical pits in desert areas, lying in wait at the bottom for prey to tumble in. Its jaws are incredibly strong, capable of crushing even large boulders, and it is said that once it clamps down, it won't let go. Despite its formidable jaws, Trapinch is small and somewhat vulnerable outside its trap. It evolves into Vibrava at level 35, and then into the majestic, dragon-like Flygon at level 45. In the games, Trapinch is often found in desert environments, such as the Haina Desert in Alola or Route 111 in Hoenn. Its role in the anime often highlights its predatory nature and its eventual growth into a powerful Pokémon. Trapinch's design is inspired by antlions, insects known for their larval stage that digs similar pit traps. Its evolution line is unique, starting as a pure Ground-type and gaining the Dragon-type upon evolving into Flygon, making it a fan favorite for its dramatic transformation and powerful final form.
