Staryu is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, known for its distinctive star-shaped body and the red gem, or "core," at its center. This core glows with seven colors, and it's said to communicate with other Staryu by flashing these lights in a rhythmic pattern. Often found in the ocean, clinging to rocks with its five flexible appendages, Staryu is a nocturnal creature that becomes active when the stars twinkle in the night sky. Its diet primarily consists of small aquatic organisms. In the games, Staryu evolves into Starmie when exposed to a Water Stone, gaining Psychic typing alongside its Water type. Staryu and its evolution Starmie are prominent Pokémon, particularly in the anime where Misty, one of Ash's original companions, frequently uses a Staryu in battles and contests.
