Sandile

Sandile is a Ground/Dark type Pokémon first introduced in Generation V, hailing from the Unova region. Known as the Desert Croc Pokémon, it is characterized by its small, crocodilian form and distinctive black mask-like markings around its eyes, which are actually membranes that protect its vision from the desert sun and sandstorms. Sandile typically inhabits deserts, burying itself in the sand with only its eyes and snout exposed, waiting for prey. Its diet primarily consists of smaller desert creatures, which it ambushes by sensing their vibrations through the sand. Sandile evolves into Krokorok starting at level 29, and then into Krookodile starting at level 40.

In the Pokémon games, Sandile is often encountered early in desert areas, making it a common and accessible team member for players exploring the arid landscapes of Unova and later Alola. Its Ground/Dark typing provides it with an interesting set of resistances and weaknesses, making it a versatile choice against various opponents. In the anime, Sandile often appears as a mischievous character, most notably Ash's rival Trip's Sandile, and later Ash himself catches a Sandile that eventually evolves into a powerful Krookodile, known for its sunglasses. Culturally, Sandile embodies the resilience and adaptability required to thrive in harsh desert environments, often depicted as both cunning and somewhat endearing despite its predatory nature. Its unique appearance and dual typing have made it a memorable Pokémon for many fans since its debut.
