Their diet consists primarily of microscopic organisms and small aquatic plants. In the anime, Misty, one of Ash's traveling companions, owns a Poliwag that eventually evolves into a Politoed. Poliwag's evolutionary line boasts a unique combination of Water and Fighting types for Poliwrath, and Water and an ability to learn many different types of moves for Politoed. The spiral on its belly is said to be a soft, vulnerable spot, and its direction changes depending on the region.
