Known as the Destruction Pokémon, Yveltal is said to absorb the life force of all living things when its own life comes to an end, transforming into a cocoon to sleep for a thousand years before being reborn. Its signature move, Oblivion Wing, reflects this ability to drain life. In the Kalos region, Yveltal is depicted as one of the two legendary Pokémon responsible for maintaining the balance of life and death, often associated with destruction and chaos in contrast to Xerneas's life-giving properties.
