Paras is a dual-type Bug/Grass Pokémon introduced in Generation I, famously known as the Mushroom Pokémon. Its most distinctive feature is the pair of parasitic mushrooms, known as Tochukaso, that grow on its back. These fungi are symbiotic, feeding off Paras but also providing it with nutrients and eventually growing so large they control the host. Paras typically inhabits forests and damp, wooded areas where the conditions are ideal for the growth of its mushrooms. In the wild, Paras are often found burrowing into tree roots to feed, and their glowing mushrooms are said to be visible in the dark. It evolves into Parasect starting at level 24, at which point the mushrooms have completely taken over, leaving Parasect largely controlled by the fungi. In the games, Paras is a relatively common early-game Pokémon, often encountered in caves or forests, and is notable for its ability to learn Spore, a 100% accurate sleep-inducing move. Its unique biological relationship with the Tochukaso mushrooms has made it a memorable part of the Pokémon ecosystem and lore.
