Chinchou is a dual-type Water/Electric Pokémon introduced in Generation II, native to the Johto region. Known as the Angler Pokémon, it evolves into Lanturn starting at level 27. Chinchou is characterized by its small, blue, spherical body and two antennae that extend from its head, each tipped with a luminous yellow orb. These light-emitting organs are used to attract prey in the deep-sea environments where Chinchou typically resides. Its diet primarily consists of small aquatic organisms lured by its bioluminescence. In the Pokémon world, Chinchou is often depicted as a docile creature, but its electric capabilities make it a formidable opponent when provoked. Its unique typing gives it an interesting set of resistances and weaknesses in battles, being strong against Fire, Water, Ice, Flying, and Steel types, while being weak to Grass and Ground types. Chinchou has appeared in various episodes of the Pokémon anime, often showcasing its ability to illuminate dark underwater areas. It also plays a role in the Pokémon games as an accessible early-game Water/Electric type that can be a valuable asset to a player's team. Its design is inspired by anglerfish, which use a similar bioluminescent lure.
