Lugia is a legendary Psychic/Flying type Pokémon, often referred to as the "Guardian of the Seas" or "Diving Pokémon." Introduced in Generation II with the release of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Lugia is renowned for its immense power and its role in maintaining balance among the legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. It is the mascot of Pokémon Silver and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. Lugia's natural habitat is typically deep underwater, where it sleeps in isolated trenches, emerging only to quell conflicts between the legendary birds or when its offspring are threatened. Despite its formidable power, Lugia is depicted as a gentle and protective creature, preferring solitude and peace. Its diet is unknown, but its immense size and power suggest it would require significant sustenance. In the anime, Lugia plays a central role in "The Power of One" movie, where it is shown capable of controlling weather patterns and communicating telepathically with humans. Its unique typing gives it resistances to Fighting and Grass, and a weakness to Electric, Rock, Ghost, Ice, and Dark types. Lugia does not evolve from or into any other Pokémon, standing as a singular, powerful entity in the Pokémon world, symbolizing mystery and guardianship.
