Tapu Koko is an Electric/Flying-type Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VII, native to the Alola region. It is one of the four guardian deities of Alola, specifically the guardian of Melemele Island. As a guardian deity, Tapu Koko is revered by the people of Alola and is known for its fierce protective nature over its island and its inhabitants. Its Pokédex entries describe it as a highly curious Pokémon that summons thunderclouds and stores lightning within its body, often challenging others to battles to test their strength. In the Pokémon games, Tapu Koko plays a significant role in the main storyline of Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, often appearing to assist the player or challenge them. Its unique ability, Electric Surge, sets up Electric Terrain upon entering battle, boosting Electric-type moves and preventing Pokémon from falling asleep. This ability, combined with its high Speed and Special Attack stats, makes it a formidable force in competitive play. Tapu Koko does not evolve from or into any other Pokémon. Its Electric/Flying typing gives it resistances to Fighting, Flying, Steel, and Grass types, an immunity to Ground, and weaknesses to Rock and Ice. Its design is inspired by traditional Hawaiian tiki statues and birds, reflecting Alola's cultural influences.
