Slaking, often referred to as the "Slacker Pokémon," is a Normal-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III with the Hoenn region. It evolves from Vigoroth, which in turn evolves from Slakoth. Slaking is unique for its incredible base stats, rivaling those of many legendary Pokémon, but its power is severely hampered by its Truant ability in the video games, which causes it to only attack every other turn. This dichotomy defines its character: a creature of immense strength that prefers to do nothing. Its natural habitat is typically dense forests and jungles where it can find ample space to nap for up to twenty hours a day, only moving to eat or, rarely, to defend itself. Its diet consists mainly of fruits and leaves, which it consumes with minimal effort.

In the Pokémon games, Slaking is a powerful but challenging Pokémon to utilize effectively due to Truant. However, when its ability is nullified or bypassed, it becomes a devastating force. In the anime, Slaking often appears as a formidable opponent, embodying its lazy yet powerful nature. Norman, the Gym Leader of Petalburg City, famously uses a Slaking. Its type matchups are straightforward for a Normal-type: it is weak to Fighting-type moves, resistant to none, and immune to Ghost-type moves. Culturally, Slaking represents the paradox of untapped potential, a creature that could achieve greatness but chooses comfort instead, a relatable concept for many.
