Relicanth is a dual Water/Rock-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III, first appearing in the Hoenn region games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Known as the Longevity Pokémon, it is a living fossil, having remained unchanged for over 100 million years. Its design is based on the coelacanth, a real-life "living fossil" fish. Relicanth is unique in that it does not evolve from or into any other Pokémon. In the games, Relicanth plays a crucial role in unlocking the mysteries of the Regi trio (Regirock, Regice, and Registeel), requiring players to catch both it and Wailord to solve an ancient puzzle. Its natural habitat is deep-sea trenches, where it glides along the ocean floor, perfectly adapted to the immense pressures and darkness. Relicanth feeds on microorganisms and small aquatic life, using its sturdy body to withstand the currents.
