This variation affects its stats in the core Pokémon games, with larger Pumpkaboo having higher HP. Pumpkaboo evolves into Gourgeist when traded, completing its spooky transformation. These Pokémon are often found in forests and haunted areas, particularly around Halloween, reflecting their pumpkin-like appearance and ghostly nature. They are said to carry wandering spirits within their hollow bodies, guiding them to the afterlife. In the anime, Jessie of Team Rocket famously owned a Pumpkaboo, which later evolved into a Gourgeist, becoming a recurring and popular character. Their diet primarily consists of spirits and other ethereal energy, which they absorb through their pumpkin bodies. Pumpkaboo's design and lore tie directly into Halloween traditions, making it a culturally significant Pokémon, especially during the autumn season. Its dual typing gives it interesting matchups, being weak to Ghost, Fire, Flying, and Ice, but resistant to Grass, Electric, Water, Ground, and immune to Normal and Fighting type attacks in the main series games.
