Poliwhirl, the Tadpole Pokémon, is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Poliwag starting at level 25 and can further evolve into either Poliwrath when exposed to a Water Stone, or Politoed when traded holding a King’s Rock. Poliwhirl is easily recognizable by its spherical blue body and the distinctive spiral pattern on its abdomen, which is said to be its internal organs visible through its thin skin. This spiral acts as a hypnotic pattern, sometimes used to lull opponents to sleep. Poliwhirl are semi-aquatic, preferring to live in freshwater ponds and rivers where they can hunt for bug Pokémon. They are known for their strong, supple skin that allows them to live on both land and in water. When on land, they move by walking on two feet, and when in the water, they swim with great agility. Poliwhirl has been a recurring character in the Pokémon anime, most notably as Ash's Poliwag which evolved into a Poliwhirl and then into a Politoed. Its evolutionary line is one of the original 151 Pokémon, making it a nostalgic favorite for many long-time fans. Its unique evolutionary split adds an interesting dynamic to its role in the games.
