Phantump is a Ghost/Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It is known as the Stump Pokémon and evolves from an orphaned spirit possessing a rotten tree stump. According to Pokédex entries, Phantump are said to be the spirits of children who died lost in the forest and now reside within these tree stumps, crying out in eerie screeches. They are often found in deep forests, particularly those with old, decaying trees, and are known to mimic the sounds of children to lure people deeper into the woods. Despite their somewhat morbid origin, Phantump are not inherently malicious; they are often depicted as lonely and seeking companionship. Their diet typically consists of forest nutrients absorbed through the tree stump they inhabit. In the games, Phantump evolves into Trevenant when traded, a larger and more imposing sentient tree Pokémon. As a Ghost/Grass type, Phantump has unique type matchups, being weak to Fire, Flying, Ice, Ghost, and Dark attacks, but resistant to Water, Grass, Electric, Ground, and Fighting, and immune to Normal and Fighting attacks in the main series games. In the anime, Phantump have appeared in various episodes, often showcasing their playful yet sometimes mischievous nature, and their ability to communicate with other Ghost-type Pokémon. Their unique design, combining the spectral with natural elements, has made them a memorable addition to the Pokémon roster.
