Omastar is a dual Water/Rock-type Fossil Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is the final evolution of Omanyte, resurrected from the Helix Fossil. Omastar is characterized by its large, spiky shell and numerous tentacles, which it uses to capture prey. Its natural habitat would have been ancient seas, where it moved by expelling water from its siphon. The Pokédex often notes its heavy shell as a factor in its eventual extinction, theorizing that it grew too large and cumbersome, hindering its ability to hunt and move effectively. In the games, Omastar is obtained by reviving the Helix Fossil, one of the choices presented to the player in Mt. Moon. Its unique typing gives it both advantages and disadvantages; while it resists Fire, Ice, and Flying, it is doubly weak to Grass-type attacks and also vulnerable to Fighting and Ground. Omastar has a niche in competitive play due to its high Special Attack and access to powerful moves like Hydro Pump and Ancient Power, especially when utilizing abilities like Swift Swim in rain teams. In the anime, Omastar has appeared in episodes featuring fossil Pokémon, often depicted as a powerful ancient creature. Its distinctive spiral shell and evolutionary line are iconic symbols of the early Pokémon games, representing the mystery and wonder of prehistoric life.
