Muk is a Poison-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, evolving from Grimer. Often found in polluted areas like industrial canals and garbage dumps, Muk is a living embodiment of toxic sludge. Its body is composed of highly corrosive and noxious waste, making it dangerous to touch and giving off an extremely foul odor that can cause fainting. Despite its repulsive nature, Muk is known to be quite affectionate towards trainers who can tolerate its stench, often showing loyalty and even enjoying cuddles. In the Pokémon anime, Ash Ketchum famously caught a Muk that became a comedic and surprisingly effective member of his team, often appearing to smother Professor Oak with its affectionate, albeit smelly, embraces. This portrayal helped soften Muk's image from a pure environmental hazard to a lovable, if stinky, companion. In the games, Muk is a solid special attacker with good bulk, often utilized for its ability to absorb status conditions. Its Alolan form, introduced in Generation VII, adds the Dark typing and a vibrant, rainbow-like coloration due to its diet of various types of trash, further expanding its lore and appeal.
