Muk, the Sludge Pokémon, is a Poison-type Pokémon first introduced in Generation I. It is the evolved form of Grimer, achieved by reaching a certain experience level. Alolan Muk, its regional variant from the Alola region (Generation VII), adds the Dark type to its Poison typing. Both forms are known for their noxious, corrosive bodies and unpleasant odors, often found in polluted areas like industrial waste sites or garbage dumps. Muk’s diet consists primarily of industrial waste and garbage, which it absorbs and incorporates into its own body, growing larger and more toxic. Alolan Muk, however, has a more varied diet, including discarded items and even other Pokémon, and its vibrant, rainbow-like colors are a result of its diverse consumption of various kinds of waste. In the games, Muk is often portrayed as a formidable opponent due to its high Special Attack and HP, while Alolan Muk gains an advantage with its dual typing, offering more resistances and STAB options. In the anime, Ash Ketchum owns a Muk that is affectionate despite its appearance, often smothering Professor Oak. The species collectively represents themes of environmental pollution and adaptation, embodying both the dangers of contamination and the resilience of life in harsh conditions.
