Metapod is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, evolving from Caterpie at Level 7 and subsequently evolving into Butterfree at Level 10. This cocoon Pokémon is renowned for its seemingly passive nature, often depicted hardening its shell as its primary defense mechanism. In the Kanto region, Metapod are commonly found in forests and woodlands, typically nestled among trees or on leaves, undergoing their metamorphosis. Their diet consists primarily of tree sap and other plant matter, which they consume as Caterpie before entering their Metapod stage, where they cease eating. Metapod's behavior is characterized by its stillness, focusing all its energy on evolving, though it can use "Harden" to increase its defense. In the Pokémon anime, Ash's Caterpie evolved into a Metapod early in his journey, showcasing its struggle and eventual triumph in evolving into Butterfree. This highlighted its role as a symbol of patience and transformation.
