It evolves from Galarian Yamask when the player walks under the stone arch in the Dusty Bowl after the Pokémon has taken 49 or more damage without fainting. This specific evolution method highlights its connection to ancient relics and curses, as its body is literally a collection of runes that have absorbed a powerful spirit. Unlike its original form, which is a pure Ghost-type, Galarian Runerigus gains the Ground typing, reflecting its stony, ancient appearance. Its Pokédex entries often describe it as a Pokémon formed from a powerful curse woven into an ancient painting, which then absorbed the spirit of a Yamask, causing the painting to move.
