Eternatus is a legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII, native to the Galar region. Known as the Gigantic Pokémon, it is a formidable Poison/Dragon-type creature that arrived on Earth inside a meteorite 20,000 years prior to the events of Pokémon Sword and Shield. Eternatus is the source of the Dynamax and Gigantamax phenomena, an ability it uses to absorb energy and grow to immense sizes during the "Darkest Day." Its natural habitat is believed to be deep within the Galar region's power plant, where it lay dormant for thousands of years, continuously absorbing Galar particles. Eternatus does not consume food in the traditional sense; instead, it absorbs energy from its surroundings, particularly from Dynamax energy. Its behavior is primarily driven by its instinct to absorb energy, leading to its destructive rampages during the Darkest Day. In the games, Eternatus is the main antagonist of the Sword and Shield storyline, requiring the player and Zacian/Zamazenta to defeat it in its powerful Eternamax form. Its unique Poison/Dragon typing gives it a complex set of type matchups, being weak to Ground, Ice, Dragon, and Psychic, while resisting Fighting, Poison, Bug, Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric.
