Aurorus is a dual-type Ice/Rock Pokémon introduced in Generation VI, evolving from Amaura when leveled up at night. This prehistoric Pokémon, resurrected from the Sail Fossil, is known for its elegant and graceful appearance, reminiscent of a long-necked dinosaur. Its most striking feature is the pair of sail-like appendages on its head and neck, which are capable of emitting beautiful aurora-like lights, hence its name. Aurorus is a gentle giant, often depicted as calm and serene, living in cold climates where it can thrive. Its diet is primarily herbivorous, consisting of plants and mosses that grow in icy environments. In the Pokémon games, Aurorus is often utilized for its strong Special Attack and its ability to set up Aurora Veil, a move that halves damage from both physical and special attacks. In the anime, it has appeared in various episodes, often highlighting its connection to ancient times and its unique ice-based abilities. Its design draws inspiration from sauropods, particularly the Amargasaurus, and the concept of the aurora borealis, giving it a distinctive and memorable cultural significance within the Pokémon universe. Its Ice/Rock typing gives it unique strengths against Flying and Ground types, but also notable weaknesses to Fighting, Steel, Water, and Grass types.
