Unown are a mysterious group of Psychic-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. They are unique in that they exist in 28 different forms, each resembling a letter of the Latin alphabet, plus an exclamation mark and a question mark. These forms often appear together, forming words or messages, and are closely tied to ancient ruins and historical events within the Pokémon world, particularly the Johto region's Ruins of Alph. Unown do not evolve from or into any other Pokémon, making them a standalone species. Their role in the games is primarily as collectible curiosities, often unlocking hidden areas or lore when specific forms are found. In the anime, they are depicted as powerful, reality-bending entities, most famously in "Pokémon 3: The Movie – Spell of the Unown," where their collective psychic energy creates a dream world for a young girl. Their unusual nature and connection to ancient mysteries give them a significant cultural presence, representing the enigmatic and forgotten aspects of the Pokémon universe.
