Alolan Meowth is a Dark-type Pokémon, a regional variant of the classic Normal-type Meowth, introduced in Generation VII with the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon. Unlike its Kanto counterpart, which is often depicted as mischievous but generally good-natured, Alolan Meowth is known for its cunning and prideful nature, often seen as a pampered pet of Alolan royalty before becoming feral. Its sleek, dark grey fur and the golden coin on its forehead distinguish it visually. In the Alola region, Meowth were originally brought in as gifts to the royal family, where their pampered lifestyle led to a change in their appearance and personality over generations, making them more arrogant and strategic. They typically inhabit urban areas and luxurious estates. Alolan Meowth evolves into Alolan Persian, maintaining its Dark typing. In the games, it often serves as a common early-game encounter in specific areas. Its Dark typing gives it an advantage against Psychic and Ghost types, while being weak to Fighting, Bug, and Fairy types. In the anime, Team Rocket’s Meowth briefly encountered an Alolan Meowth, highlighting the stark personality differences between the two variants. This regional form adds a fascinating layer to the Meowth lineage, showcasing how environment and human interaction can drastically alter a Pokémon's characteristics.
