Galarian Yamask, a Ghost/Ground type introduced in Generation VIII with the Galar region, is a unique regional variant of the original Yamask. Unlike its Unovan counterpart, which carries a mask that was once its face, Galarian Yamask is possessed by a vengeful spirit that has merged with a clay slab. This slab is said to be absorbing the Yamask's dark power, making it a peculiar and somewhat tragic Pokémon. Galarian Yamask evolves into Runerigus when it takes 49 or more damage from an attack and is then walked under the stone archway in the Dusty Bowl area of the Wild Area. Its natural habitat includes desolate areas, ruins, and battlefields, places where strong emotions linger. In the games, it often appears as a puzzle element or a rare encounter, emphasizing its mysterious nature. Its unique evolution method further highlights its connection to ancient spirits and the land. Its Ghost typing makes it vulnerable to Ghost and Dark moves, while its Ground typing provides resistance to Poison, Rock, and Fire, and immunity to Electric attacks. This dual typing also leaves it with a weakness to Grass, Water, Ice, and Ghost attacks.
