Alolan Dugtrio is a unique regional variant of the familiar Mole Pokémon, Dugtrio, introduced in Generation VII with the Alola region. Unlike its Kanto counterpart, Alolan Dugtrio sports flowing, golden hair-like strands, which are actually metallic whiskers that serve as highly sensitive sensors. These whiskers are so strong they can even be used to punch through solid rock. In the Alola region, Alolan Dugtrio is revered as a deity of the land, thought to be the feminine incarnations of the land itself, and their presence is considered a sign of good fortune. They are Ground/Steel type Pokémon, giving them a distinct set of type matchups compared to the pure Ground-type Kanto Dugtrio. As an evolved form of Alolan Diglett, they often live in volcanic areas, using their powerful whiskers to dig intricate tunnel systems. They are known for their playful and sometimes mischievous nature, often popping out of the ground to surprise unsuspecting trainers. Their Steel typing gives them resistances to a wider array of types, while also introducing new weaknesses not present in the original Dugtrio.
